Charles Badcock was born in Soham (Newmarket Q1-1890 3B:531), son of George and Annie BADCOCK (née CHALLIS)

1891 census...Aged 1, he was at Qua Fen Common with his father George BADCOCK [28] farm labourer born Fordham; mother Annie [25]; brothers John [5] and George [2 months]; sisters Emily [4] and Annie Elizabeth [3]. All except his father were born in Soham.

1901 census...Aged 11, he was at Qua Fen, Soham with his parents (father now recorded as born in Burwell), brothers John, George and Harry [3] born Soham and sister Anne E.

His mother died in 1907. In 1909 he married Mary Ann WATSON (b.3-12-1888)

1911 census...Aged 21, a farm labourer, he was at Qua Fen Common, Soham with his wife Mary Ann [22] born Willingham; daughter Margaret Ivy [1] (b.5-10-1909) and un-named son [1 month] and widower father George (farm ditcher and clayer), brother Harry (farm worker) and Bert [7] born Soham.

From the pension card it appears that they lost their second child (Charles Willson) (Qtr 3-1911), but a daughter Violet was born 17-1-1914 and his widow was living in Speed Lane, Soham

His younger brother Harry died of his wounds in France in 1916 early in the battle of the Somme. see here

He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds.
The 15th Suffolk at the beginning of November 1918 were in the line east of Orcq, the enemy holding a bridgehead on the Scheldt, covering Tournai. Tournai was entered on the 9th, the 15th Suffolks guarding eastern exits from the city when the Armistice was announced. Whether Charles died of wounds or illness is not known.
